BERRI BRIDGE 'UNECONOMICAL': The Highways Department considers a bridge over the Murray River at Berri to be an uneconomical proposition. Copies of a departmental report sent to all Riverland councils state that the scheme to build a bridge would not be economical in the sense of benefits to road users and savings in ferry operations matching initial capital outlay.

MARDI GRAS MOVE: The Loxton Mardi Gras will return to the Loxton oval for 1999. This year the committee trialled a new concept by hosting the day's activities at Loxton's main street, East Terrace.
